Golden Milk for restful sleep

In today's hectic world, restful sleep is a precious commodity. The importance of sleep for our health is undeniable, and regular rituals can help us calm down more quickly. 

An effective evening ritual to find relaxation and promote sleep is preparing a soothing sleep drink. Perhaps you remember rituals from your childhood that helped you fall asleep. These habits can still be a great help as an adult. 

A popular option for a calming drink is Golden Milk.  

What is Golden Milk? 

Golden Milk is an ancient Indian drink known for its healing properties and soothing taste. It is made from turmeric and other spices, to which many positive properties are attributed. Turmeric is said to have anti-inflammatory effects and strengthen the immune system. Additionally, Golden Milk is believed to have antioxidant properties, which can help counteract premature skin aging. It is also said to promote liver function and aid digestion. Last but not least, Golden Milk is also said to help with sleep problems.

For this reason, today we are sharing a recipe for Golden Milk with you, which Pia often prepares. Let yourselves be inspired by this soothing tradition and enjoy a restful night and healthy sleep.

Pia’s favorite recipe for Golden Milk 

What you'll need:  

  • 300ml milk of your choice (I often use almond or oat milk) 
  • A piece of ginger, about the size of a thumb tip  
  • A piece of turmeric, 2-3 cm long 
  • 1 tsp cinnamon  
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom  
  • 1 pinch of pepper 
  • 1 tsp agave syrup or honey for sweetening 
  • Optional: saffron threads and a little vanilla 

 Preparation:

  1. Chop ginger and turmeric (wear gloves if necessary, as turmeric stains heavily). 
  2. Place milk, chopped ginger & turmeric, pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom in a tall container and blend well.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil in a small saucepan.
  4. Let it simmer briefly, then let it rest for 4 minutes.
  5. Strain the milk through a fine sieve into a cup and sweeten with honey.
  6. Slowly enjoy, relax, and look forward to a restful sleep <3
