A look behind the scenes of our production in Portugal
In early May, Pia came back from Portugal.
As always, she was there to search for deadstock fabrics for our upcoming collection. And as always, she used the trip to visit our manufacturer – not because it was on a to-do list, but because these visits are simply part of how we work.
A family business with history
Our manufacturer is a small, family-run business in Portugal – with around 35 experienced employees and over 100 years of connection to the Portuguese textile industry. Before avonté was even a brand, they believed in us. They started with us when we were at the very beginning. We haven't forgotten that.
Pia sat down with them during her visit – about craft, values, and what makes our collaboration special.

How did our collaboration start?
"It all started through a shared passion for quality, sustainability, and attention to detail."
No grand strategy behind it. Just the feeling that we think alike – and want to work alike.
What makes working with avonté different?
"Working with avonté feels very collaborative and respectful. There is a genuine appreciation for craftsmanship, patience in the process, and a strong focus on creating timeless products instead of following fast trends."
Reading this made us genuinely happy. Because that's exactly our ambition.
What does it mean to produce in small runs?
"Producing in small runs allows us to maintain a high level of quality and attention in every piece. It also makes the process more sustainable and personal, because each production receives the care it deserves."
This is one of the reasons we'll never chase volume. Not because we can't – but because we know that quality needs attention.
What do you pay particular attention to with each piece?
"I pay close attention to finishing, materials, and overall construction. Even the smallest details matter, because they are what make a piece durable and special."
The corozo buttons. The seam allowance. The feel of the fabric. These aren't small things for us – and they're not small things for our manufacturer either.
What makes you proud of your work?
"What makes me most proud is knowing that each piece is made with care, honesty, and experience. Seeing the final product appreciated by people who value quality is very rewarding."
We think that says it all and would like to thank Filomena for the interview.
Make yourself feel at home – à vontade.
